A new technology accelerator program in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering offers funding, space and resources to student and alumni entrepreneurs.


Entrepreneurial engineering students from the University of Southern California don’t have to look far to find an outlet for their venture creation. 

The recently launched Viterbi Startup Garage is an early-stage technology accelerator program that provides funding, space and resources to a select group of USC students and alumni. 

Created in partnership with the USC Viterbi School of Engineering; venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers; and talent and literary agency United Talent Agency, the accelerator gives talented students and graduates access to local resources. As the first Los Angeles accelerator backed by a prominent university, the Viterbi Startup Garage will help encourage bright young engineers to stay in the L.A. area after graduation and facilitate the growth of the city’s technology marketplace. 


The accelerator program is one of several offered by USC’s Viterbi Student Innovation Institute. Ventures are provided with $20,000 in funding; space; strategic and financial resources; access to world-class mentors; and hands-on product, marketing, legal and fundraising support. Approximately 10 companies will take part in the program and work out of the Viterbi Startup Garage facility for 12 weeks beginning May 28, 2013.
