The Universidad del Turabo in Puerto Rico, a Pathways to Innovation Program school, recently held the first event in their entrepreneurship and innovation event collection The Melting Pot Series.

Students participate in the first event in Universidad Del Turabo's Melting Pot Series.

The Melting Pot Series is an initiative designed to develop entrepreneurial and innovative (E&I) mindsets on the students of Universidad Del Turabo (UT). On May 1, the first event was held. One hundred and thirty students from the Schools of Engineering, International Design and Architecture and Business and Entrepreneurship attended, and were grouped into 24 interdisciplinary teams. Teams participated in games that helped them experience first-hand, concepts related to creativity, team building, leadership, big-picture problem solving and opportunity recognition. The event closed with a poster session of the class projects.

The Melting Pot Series objectives are (1) increasing E&I awareness, (2) creating spaces for interdisciplinary interaction and (3) fostering collaboration among faculty and among students across disciplines. We are excited to report we met these goals! Faculty from across multiple disciplines are excited to work together and students see the possibilities of working on E&I activities with students from other disciplines.

This initiative is lead by Dr. Alizabeth Sánchez from School of Business and Entrepreneurship and Engineer Sandra Pedraza from the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship as one of UT’s strategies in Epicenter’s Pathways to Innovation Program.
