At the Epicenter Retreat, we asked faculty to share news about entrepreneurship, innovation and engineering activities at their home institutions. Nathan Furr from Brigham Young University discovered a gap between understanding and practice of commercialization when he taught an interdisciplinary innovation class with business and engineering school students.

Nathan Furr earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and is currently an assistant professor of entrepreneurship and strategy at Brigham Young University. Nathan’s research focuses change processes and outcomes in entrepreneurial firms and emerging industries change, particularly technology industries such as the photovoltaic industry. Nathan has co-authored papers on the antecedents to firm-level and industry-level technology change as well as on the role of learning and cognition in opportunity capture.
His research has appeared in journals such as Organization Science, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Sloan Management Review and has received awards including Best Dissertation from both the Technology & Innovation Management Division and the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management as well as best paper awards or finalist distinctions from the Business and Public Policy Division of the Academy, the Kauffman Foundation, the Sloan Foundation, and other recognized academic institutions.
