Humans of the University Innovation Fellows program: Ben Riddle, Furman University

"The South is a special place. We have a respect for tradition, but we don’t just hold on to it -- we build upon it. Here, we’re seeing a new breed of innovation emerge that’s about resilience and ingenuity, and being scrappy in the moment. Bringing the Fellows here is important for me because I want the South to catch a glimpse of their work, and for them to experience the new South that's emerging."

- Ben Riddle, during the University Innovation Fellows Southeastern Regional Meetup in Greenville, SC, October 3-5, 2014.  Ben is a student at Furman University and a University Innovation Fellow for Epicenter. Ben currently serves as a design strategist and project facilitator for Victory Village, a proposed mixed-income community that is built upon principles of sustainability. Victory Village combines housing and services for the homeless with pathways to education, employment and entrepreneurship. In partnership with the Shi Center for Sustainability, he is researching the South Carolina food system to inform the creation of an agricultural economic cluster linked to the development.
